Tomlinson Hall’s Export Manager in the Running for Inspiring Female Award

We are delighted to announce that our Export Manager – Shirley Simpson – has been named as a finalist at this year’s North East England Chamber Business Awards.

Shirley has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to not only Tomlinson Hall but also to women in business. Having been with us for over 25 years, Shirley has really inspired others around her throughout her career.

She has continually demonstrated - and continues to do so - a sheer determination and 100% commitment to the business to ensure that things are done the right way. And this approach has filtered down through the team around her, who all care about the business, how it performs with its customers at the heart of everything done to ensure that the very highest service is given at all times, which the Tomlinson Hall is very well known for.

This genuine passion and commitment oozes from Shirley and she utilises her skills and wealth of experience to train people around her, which includes three members of staff who currently work in her international department. All staff have been fully trained in using the Export Control Organisations online export licensing system Spire, which has been largely supported by Shirley.

Shirley’s dedication has seen her hold the position of Export Manager for the last seven years, building this role - and the team within it - to a far bigger function than ever expected. Shirley now holds full responsibility for two of the company’s biggest pump brands on a global scale; DEPA and ELRO. Holding the relationship with these brands, Shirley has become the key point of contact for both and is highly regarded by her piers both within these businesses and outside as a figure of knowledge coupled with complete efficiency. 

Not only has Shirley been a mentor to women working at Tomlinson Hall, including Sara, Xanthe, Laura, Leisa, Karen, Shanene and Molly, Shirley has also acted as a friend to everyone throughout the business and, as such, they feel that they can approach Shirley about all matters, whether this be work or personal.

The event held on Thursday 21^st of May at Newcastle’s Civic Centre, is expected to welcome over 350 businesses to celebrate the inspiring females and organisations, those who lead the region in recognising the outstanding contribution of women in business.
