Tomlinson Hall pumped up about future growth after revenues jump 62%

February 10th 2015

A Teesside pump manufacturer is going for growth after ramping up turnover and expanding its geographical footprint.

Since 2009 Tomlinson Hall & Co has seen annual revenues jump 62% to more than £4m on the back of rising demand for its pumps and power transmission equipment.

Now the Billingham-based firm is set to add four staff to its 25-strong team as it looks to win more work across the globe.

The establishment of a global distribution network is a key priority for Tomlinson Hall, which is in discussions with potential partners in Scandinavia and the Middle East.

Business development director Colin Simpson said: “Our export markets are growing daily and that’s one of our key strengths. We’re selling back into the Far East in places like China.

“The progress that we’re making in the Middle East in particular is phenomenal. There is a lot of potential in places like Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia.

“In Europe we’ve covered Germany, we’re in advanced discussions with a Swedish company and we’re talking to a company in Finland.

“We’ve made some real progress in recent months and we’re set for growth in the future.”

Established in 1919, Tomlinson Hall started out as a general engineering company before developing into a specialist manufacturer and distributor of pumps, power transmission equipment and engineering supplies. The company makes its own range of Liquivac pumps, which have several uses such as extracting gases from landfill sites and sending filtered seawater to aquariums and marine laboratories. Users of the pumps include utilities companies, chemical processors, food and drink producers, environmental engineers, sealife centres and land remediation experts.

Mr Simpson said: “The diversity of our business is what makes it successful. We’re not channelled into one single industry. We cover a range of sectors such as chemicals, construction, healthcare, pharmaceutical, water and waste treatment.”

Tomlinson Hall also acts as a UK distributor for a variety of UK and overseas manufacturers - a move which has raised its profile at home and abroad. Last year the company was crowned Britain’s Pump Distributor of the Year in the Pump Industry Awards - the fourth time in five years it has achieved the accolade.

Tomlinson Hall is also becoming renowned for its work in the local community, recently donating £2,000 to Prior’s Mill Primary School in Billingham. Tomlinson Hall had originally won the cash prize for being named SME of the Year at the recent NEPIC Annual Awards but decided to donate it to the school.
