Charity is the winner at golf day

June 3rd 2016

Nearly £1500 was raised for charity last month at a golf day sponsored by Tomlinson Hall.

Fourteen teams from across North East England took part in the Billingham Legacy Foundation Golf Day, held on May 20 at Billingham Golf Club.

The Billingham Legacy Foundation is an independent charitable grant making body which invests in the community of Billingham for the benefit of the people of Billingham – and we were proud to play our part in supporting the organisation, which helps so many people in our local area.

The event featured a Stableford competition, plus a raffle and auction, and teams of four golfers from Billingham Golf Club, CF Fertilizers, Brewin Dolphin, Hartburn Accountants, FW Capital, Tim Ellis Builders, Biochemica, HSBC, AM Engineering, Nortech and Tomlinson Hall showed their golfing prowess on the course.

Our two teams included Tomlinson Hall staff plus representatives of CRANE ChemPharma & Energy Flow Solutions, Stockton Council, Tata Steel, Yorkshire Water and Haden Freeman.

Winners of the Stableford competition were CF Fertilizers 1, while Billingham Golf Club A came in as runners up and the team from AM Engineering scooped third place.

David Lindsay, part of the Tomlinson Hall A team, took home the prize for Longest Drive and Dave McNeill, of the Billingham Golf Club A team, claimed the Nearest to the Pin prize.

Raffle prizes were donated by Tomlinson Hall, Emirates Airways, HSBC, Billingham Golf Club, Hartburn Accountants, Grundfos, Billingham Legacy Foundation Supporters and FW Capital, with auction prizes kindly provided by Biochemica, Nortech, Brewin Dolphin and Billingham Golf Club.

Colin Simpson, business development director of Tomlinson Hall, helped to organise the event and was made a Patron of the Billingham Legacy Foundation in a special presentation.

Colin Simpson said: “Tomlinson Hall is committed to playing our part in helping the community on our doorstep in Billingham, and the wider North East, and we’re delighted to be able to help fund the work of The Billingham Legacy Foundation through sponsoring and backing events like this.

“We’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all of the teams who competed in the event for their support, and for helping to make it a special day for The Billingham Legacy Foundation.

“We’re extremely grateful to all of the companies and individuals who donated auction and raffle prizes, and we’re thrilled that so many people in the North East came together for such a worthy cause.

“In addition, we greatly appreciate the help of Mike Ure, professional at Billingham Golf Club and his team and would also like to thank Billingham Golf Club steward Andy Hudd and his staff for the clubhouse welcome and fantastic food on the day.

“And a special mention goes to Steve Pugh of Nortech, who won the first prize – a new TV – in the raffle but kindly donated it back to the foundation so it could be given to somebody in the community who would benefit from it.”

Presentations on the day were made by Roger Black, co-founder of the Billingham Legacy Foundation Trust and Colin Simpson, while the golf starter was Kevin Pitt, co-founder of the Billingham Legacy Foundation Trust.

Sandi Sturrock and Val Scollen of the Billingham Legacy Foundation Committee both helped to organise the event.
